Forged: Torque Bangle
The Burnished Horse signature farriers nail style horse hair torque bangle
A handmade square braid created using the Japanese Kumihimo technique is inlayed between clean sculptural lines of solid sterling silver terminating in horse shoe nails which give the piece a beautifully understated equestrian character.
The central strengthening plate and traditional London hallmarks add subtle detail.
Each bangle is individually handmade to order using tail hair from your own horse, or from our carefully selected horse hair collection.
Personal engraving can be added to the inside, outside, or both.
A substantial piece of jewellery with a quiet connection to the horse that inspired it, the Forged torque is designed to be worn and treasured for years to come.

Important - fitting your bangle: to fit the torque bangle initially you can adjust it if necessary by slightly opening or closing the gap. To do so pull the ends apart or push them together straight, avoiding twisting the bangle. Going forward you should then be able to slip the bangle on and off without having to open or close the gap each time.
If, contrary to this advice, you repeatedly open and close the gap in the bangle or if you twist it, the metal will flex and fatigue and there is a risk that the bangle could break. Unfortunately, if this happens the bangle cannot be repaired and it would have to be remade with fresh horse hair at full cost.
Sending your horse hair
If your jewellery is being made with your own horse’s hair, please send clean, dry, full-length tail hair, ideally at least 40 cm long (or at least 20 cm if braid to be made in two parts - see below). Take the hairs at their full length rather than trimming the ends.
A small bundle is plenty — no thicker than your little finger. If sending hair from more than one horse, please package and label each horse’s hair separately.
Full instructions, including where to send your horsehair, will be provided after ordering. Any unused hair will be returned to you with your finished jewellery.
Making & Delivery
Each piece is individually handmade to order and commissions are completed in the order they are received.
If you have a particular date in mind, please tell us when ordering and we will do our best to accommodate it. If your date is essential, please contact us before placing your order.
Care & Longevity
Your bangle is designed to be worn and enjoyed, but a little care will help keep it looking its best.
The opening can be adjusted slightly to achieve a comfortable fit. When adjusting the bangle, open or close the gap evenly and avoid twisting the two sides in opposite directions.
Once a comfortable fit has been found, avoid repeatedly bending the bangle open and closed. Repeated flexing or twisting can cause metal fatigue and may eventually lead to breakage.
Horse hair is naturally strong and resilient, but avoid prolonged soaking and anything that may snag, cut or abrade it. Remove your bangle before bathing, swimming or activities that may expose it to excessive moisture or abrasion.
Please follow the care instructions supplied with your jewellery.
