Forged: Birthstone Ring
Your horse's hair. Your birthstone. Or perhaps theirs.
A tiny square braid of horse hair is set into the channel of this slender sterling silver ring, leading to a single gemstone held in a raised, sculptural setting.
Choose your own birthstone, your horse's, or simply a stone whose colour you love. From garnet and sapphire to emerald and ruby, each stone brings its own character to the design. A plain polished finish or The Burnished Horse logo can also take the place of the gemstone.
The exceptionally fine braid requires only a small amount of hair and can be made using lengths from around 15 cm, making this design particularly suitable when only a limited amount of precious hair is available.
Individually made using your own horse hair, or choose from our carefully selected horse hair. At approximately 3 mm wide, its understated proportions make it easy to wear every day.

Sizing & Fit
This ring is approximately 3 mm wide and is made individually to your chosen ring size.
If you're unsure of your size, we'll send you the ring sizer that most closely matches the width of this design to try at home. Simply return the sizer to us with your horse hair once you've established the most comfortable fit.
Rings can be made in half sizes where required.
Sending Your Horse Hair
If your jewellery is being made with your own horse’s hair, please send clean, dry, full-length tail hair wherever possible. This allows us to select the strongest and most suitable hairs for the braid. This design can be made with hair as short as 15 cm, although longer hair is preferable. Please take the hairs at their full length rather than trimming the ends.
A small bundle is plenty — a pencil’s thickness for guidance. If sending hair from more than one horse, please package and label each horse’s hair separately.
Full instructions, including where to send your horsehair, will be provided after ordering. Any unused hair will be returned to you with your finished jewellery.
Making & Delivery
Each piece is individually handmade to order, and commissions are as far as possible completed in the order they are received.
Lead times are broadly 4 - 6 weeks depending on the size of our order book, casting and hallmarking schedules. If you have a particular date in mind, please let us know when ordering and we will do our best to accommodate it.
Once completed, your jewellery will be carefully packaged and sent using an insured, tracked service. UK delivery is included.
Care & longevity
Your ring is made to be worn and enjoyed but rings are naturally exposed to more wear than other pieces of jewellery and a little extra care will help preserve it beautifully over time.
Avoid prolonged soaking and remove your ring before bathing, swimming, washing up or using household cleaning products. We also recommend removing it when applying hand creams, lotions or other products that may build up around the horse hair.
The fine braid is protected within the channel of the ring, but take care to avoid snagging or abrasion. In particular, we recommend that you do not wear your Wishbone Ring directly alongside another ring with stones, settings or sharp edges that could rub against the horse hair.
