Celebrating the horse
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Horse hair makes fabulous jewellery! A little tail hair “borrowed” from your horse(s) is all that’s needed to make you a beautiful piece of jewellery to treasure. The process is simple: choose a design from our Collections, place your order online and harvest some horse hair. Pop it in the post to us and sit back while we work our magic. See the FAQ’s below and the detailed instructions for each design or drop us a line if you’re not sure about anything.
Our collection pieces include rings, bangles, bracelets, earrings, pendants, pins, lockets, charms and cufflinks, crafted in solid precious metals and incorporating braided, woven and rope-twisted horse hair
We would love to work with you to bring your vision to life. Take a look at some of our bespoke pieces.
Whether celebrating a beloved horse, a special achievement or choosing a meaningful gift for a fellow horse lover, each piece is designed to honour an extraordinary bond. Maybe it’s a first pony, a first Badminton, a show jumping win or some dressage ribbons. An 18th birthday or a retirement present or a thoughtful gift for a race horse owner.
Engraving makes your jewellery truly special, whether it’s a name, a nickname, initials, a love heart, a quotation or something uniquely quirky.
Horse hair jewellery is something unique and meaningful and The Burnished Horse makes horse hair jewellery like no other.
All pieces are made here in the UK and hallmarked for metal quality by the London Assay Office.

Horse hair jewellery
This varies by design. Some pieces require only a small amount of hair, while woven pieces need full-length tail hair. You'll find the exact requirements on each product page, so please check these before cutting or sending any hair.
For most designs, tail hair is preferable. Our woven pieces require full-length tail hairs because they are woven individually on a loom. Some other designs can be made using much shorter lengths. The requirements are shown on each product page.

Natural variation is part of what makes each piece unique. Different colours, textures and even variations along an individual hair can produce beautiful results. If you're unsure whether the hair you have is suitable for a particular design, please contact us before ordering.
Yes. Many designs can be made using horse hair from our carefully selected stock. Where this is available, you'll see the choice between Yours and Ours when ordering.
Full instructions are provided with your order and on the relevant product page. Please don't cut the hair into shorter lengths unless the instructions specifically say to do so.
Each piece is individually handmade to order. If you're hoping to receive your jewellery for a particular date, tell us when ordering and we'll let you know whether it's achievable.
This is hand made jewellery made with love so it can take some time. It depends on current workloads and casting schedules but typically allow 4 - 6 weeks for collection pieces. If we have castings in stock, we may well be able to dispatch quite quickly. Rings are usually sized and cast to order so they take a little longer. Let us know if you are working to a particular deadline and we will do our best to accommodate you.
No. For the time being we ship within the UK only.
