My Craft
All the pretty horsehair ...
So many pretty designs! Horsehair is incredible and it makes stunning jewellery. I use ancient weaving and braiding methods to create my unique pieces by hand. I marry this beautiful, natural material with burnished precious metals to create quality, wearable jewellery, hallmarked by the London Assay Office.
For the braided work I use a Japanese silk braiding technique. The Victorians made "lovers" jewellery in the same way from human hair.
I'm one of the very few people in the world who weaves horsehair. This rare technique produces a very fine, flat ribbon band which creates endless possibilities for inlaying into fine jewellery. I work with a leading jewellery casting house to realise my designs.
Natural horsehair comes in many hues and tones. Juxtaposed, the different hair shades can form intricate patterns. With a nod to British tailoring fabrics, I create a wide range of patterns for my exclusive jewellery, including tweeds, stripes and tiny repeating motifs. A flash of gold or silver thread or coloured kimono silk adds contrast to plain hair.
